Suspect Sought In Early Morning Assault |
|
On December 20, 2011 at about 7:00 am CST, the Sioux City Police Department received a report of an assault at 17th & Jones. A 16 year old female reported that while she was waiting for her bus, an unknown male grabbed her from behind. The suspect covered her mouth and threatened to harm her. The girl was able to escape when a car passed and the male released her. The victim ran home home and appears to be uninjured.
The only description of the suspect the SCPD has is a male, about 6 feet tall and thin. He was wearing a dark brown work style coat, jeans, and a mask or scarf over his face.
These types of incidents of a stranger assaulting a person are rare. It is always important to consider safety when out and about no matter where you are. Be aware of your surroundings by eliminating distractions. Keep an eye out for suspicious people or other dangers. Know your location and keep a full charge on your cell pone as much as possible. Be alert to situations, areas, or people that don't make you feel comfortable or could be a problem. If you have a "funny felling" about something, listen to your instincts. Avoid those situations or people that alert you. Make a mental note of their description and take action to get away. Call for help if you think you need it and go somewhere safe. The SCPD is available to investigate suspicious subjects and activity at anytime.
If you were in the area of the incident and have a better description of the suspect or witnessed this incident, please contact Detective Troy Hansen at 898-4554.
