The Sioux City Police Department arrested 37 year old Scott Allen Slauter, Sioux City, for the burglary of 4705 Stone Park Blvd. The burglary occurred on January 6, 2012 at about 11:22 am CST.
Video from a security camera showed Slauter in a hooded sweatshirt going through the residence after forcing entry. Based on information obtained by investigators in connection to this burglary and other cases, Slauter was identified as the suspect.
Slauter was charged with 2nd Degree Burglary and Felon in Possession of a Firearm. Items taken from the burglary were recovered from Slauter's possession.
"This case is a good reminder that burglaries of homes are more likely to occur during the daytime," said Officer Jeremy McClure, Crime Prevention Officer the SCPD.
Homeowners can also reduce their risk of being victimized by locking doors when not at home. Reinforcing doors and locks by using screws long enough to screw into the framing around the door is also important. "Newer deadbolt kits are including these longer screws as well as stronger strike plates. Make sure to using a longer screw in each of the hinges as well. This makes it harder to force open doors," Officer McClure added. As always, people are encouraged to call police anytime they see something suspicious.
