The Sioux City Police Department has taken a leadership role in combating the increasing threat of methamphetamine by establishing the National Training Center in our community. The purpose of theTraining Center is to increase the knowledge and effectiveness of law enforcement agencies. Training will be provided to all law enforcement agencies with emphasis on the small town and rural law enforcement agencies.
Due to the efforts of Congressman Tom Latham and the continued efforts of Congressman Steve King, the NTC has provided 800 classes through June 2010 training over 22,000 officers from 42 states.
We view the project, not as a temporary fix, but as a beginning of an educational process that will continue for years to come. A process that will create a working network of law enforcement agencies, community groups, private business, health professionals, the courts, corrections and citizens at large to deal with the problem of methamphetamine.
