The Sioux City Police Department recently completed the 2012 Youth Academy on Tuesday, June 26, 2012.  Police Chief Doug Young congratulated 17 students who have completed the five-week course.

The Sioux City Police Department also wants to acknowledge the following sponsors for their generous contributions to make it possible to offer the Youth Academy:  Friends of the Sioux City Police Department, SAM’s Club, Lt Pat McCann, and Hy-Vee on Hamilton.

Suspect Sought For Weekend Shooting

On November 20, 2011 at around 01:15 am, CDT, the Sioux City Police Department received a report of a shooting that had occurred in the area of the 1200 block of 4th St. A unknown male had arrived at Mercy Medical Center with a gun shot wound.

The victim in this shooting was identified as Brian Henderson, 19 years of age.

Iowa Law Prohibiting Synthetic Drugs

The Sioux City Police Department would like to notify the public that as of July 29, 2011, Iowa law prohibits the manufacture, delivery, possession with intent to deliver, and possession of synthetic cannabinoids. This includes bath salts, K2 products, and salvia divinorum.

The penalty for the manufacture, delivery, or possession with intent to deliver any of these substances to a juvenile is a Class B felony and to an adult is an aggravated misdemeanor.  The maximum sentence for a Class B felony is up to 25 years in prison. The maximum sentence for an aggravated misdemeanor is up to two years in prison and a $6,250 fine.  The penalty for possession of these substances is a serious misdemeanor.   The maximum sentence for a serious misdemeanor is 365 days in jail and $1,875 fine.
