On December 13, 2014 members of the Sioux City Police Department spent the day shopping for Christmas presents with 30 Sioux City kids.  This is the 12th year the Sioux City Police Department has partnered with the local WalMart stores to help make Christmas brighter for kids and their families.  WalMart donates the money, $100.00 per child and the police officers shop with the kids.  Each child spends the money on gifts for his/her family members. The gifts are then wrapped by members of the police department's VIP program.  Each kid is then surprised with a new bike and helmet, both donated by the Variety Club.  Thank you to WalMart for the generous donation!

Iowa Law Prohibiting Synthetic Drugs

The Sioux City Police Department would like to notify the public that as of July 29, 2011, Iowa law prohibits the manufacture, delivery, possession with intent to deliver, and possession of synthetic cannabinoids. This includes bath salts, K2 products, and salvia divinorum.

The penalty for the manufacture, delivery, or possession with intent to deliver any of these substances to a juvenile is a Class B felony and to an adult is an aggravated misdemeanor.  The maximum sentence for a Class B felony is up to 25 years in prison. The maximum sentence for an aggravated misdemeanor is up to two years in prison and a $6,250 fine.  The penalty for possession of these substances is a serious misdemeanor.   The maximum sentence for a serious misdemeanor is 365 days in jail and $1,875 fine.

Fraud Alert for Wells Fargo Customers

October 4, 2011 at 8:00 pm CDT - The Sioux City Police Department has been receiving calls from citizens in regards to phone and internet solicitations from individuals that claim to be with Wells Fargo Bank. These calls are often automated and initially advise that the card holder’s credit card will be shut down. The call recipient is then directed through a menu and asked to provide a credit card number. As a result we have contacted Wells Fargo Directly and they are aware of ongoing fraud being perpetrated against Wells Fargo Customers. They also confirmed that they would never contact and ask customers to provide personal information or card numbers over the phone.

Attempted Abduction Reported in Riverside

On August 3, 2011 at a little after 12:00 pm CDT, the Sioux City Police Dept was contacted about an attempted abduction of two children in the 1100 Block of Pacquette. At about 12:00 two children, a female who is 11 years old and a male who is 9 years old, saw a van with two males in it. One of the males told the children that they were friends with their mother and she was hurt. He told the children that they needed to get into the van with them.
